Family/Economic Development

Roger Mann and Monica Graves from Huntington Bank  with SCOPP Executive Director Jay Murdock receive the CRA and  Fair Lending Colloquium’s Community Impact Award for Huntington’s long-standing support of SCOPP’s Family Development Program.

Text Box: It is our mission to assist families and individuals escape the cycle of persistent poverty by utilizing asset-based strategies that actively promote homeownership, small business development and education. In 1997, SCOPP launched it’s Individual Development Account Asset Management program as a way to help support our Family Development initiative. Individual Development Accounts (IDA) are consistent with SCOPP’s mission inasmuch as they provide an innovative entrepreneurial means to rebuild families, neighborhoods and community.
SCOPP’s Family Development Program continues to set the standard for similar programs across the nation. In 2004, the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland recognized SCOPP’s accomplishments for the success of the IDA program. Additionally, Huntington Bank received the national CRA and Fair Lending Colloquium’s Community Impact Award for it’s commitment to work with our Family Development Program. Through the end of 2006 SCOPP had a total of 60 families in various stages of the program. These 60 families have saved nearly $60,000 and leveraged over $208,000 in matching funds to go toward their dream goal of purchasing a home, starting a business or continuing their education.
In addition to the IDA Asset Management Program, Family Development offers these additional services:
Financial Literacy Education
Credit Counseling, Budgeting and Debt Management
Intensive Pre and Post Purchase Homeownership Counseling
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Free Income Tax Preparation Program
