  • SCOPP Announces Its 2009 Peel Coleman Scholarship Winner

    September 1, 2009

    Peel Coleman Scholarship WinnerFormer Canton City Councilman, Edward “Peel” Coleman believed that preparing for success was an internal process, not an external one and that “hard work plus honesty and commitment equaled opportunity.”   Peel believed in empowerment not entitlement and was adamant about working hard, community involvement, getting a good education and then reaching out as far as one could. Kariz Golda Ty Callope this year’s Peel Coleman scholarship winner represents all of those qualities.  For further details....

  • Youth Program Ends Record Breaking Season With A Splash

    August 16, 2009  Awards Picnic                                           

    After a record breaking season, SCOPP's Flight101 Youth Track and Field Club finished the summer off with it's awards picnic at Sluggers and Putters in Canal Fulton.  Honored were this years AAU National medalist Katrina Rettburg for her 6th place finish in the high jump and Clinton Bentley III who finished 8th in the 200m dash.  For more details.

  •  June 12, 2009 - Canton gets HUD grant to build six energy efficient homes. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will give $250,000 to the city to build six energy-efficient homes at Sixth Street NE and Cherry Avenue that will be sold at affordable prices to low-income families, the department, a city official and U.S. Rep. John Boccieri’s office announced Friday.
  • Sunday, November 2, 2008 - Money Management 101 - "In these uncertain financial times, it's important to get a handle on spending." 
  • June 3, 2007 - Willow Park, new neighborhood more than bricks and sticks - This month Jewell Nelson will become a homeowner.  The grand-mother is buying a house in the new Willow Park development off of 30th street and Harmount Avenue.  
  • June 3, 2006 29 homes for NE, some subsidized.  Work on the first of 29 new homes at the Willow Park housing development is set to start ina few weeks on the city's northeast side.  Local officials attended a Friday groundbreakin ceremony to kick off the project  
  • January 12, 2005 - Local Homeowner program praised. A local program that federal officials herald gives low- and moderately low-income families the leverage to make their lives better.
  • November 15, 2004   -  Unizan Bank receives Community Service Award - Unizan Bank, National Association is honored to announce the organization's Stark County Out of Poverty Partnership (SCOPP) IDA Asset Management Program has received the CRA and Fair Lending Colloquium's annual Community Impact Award for banks with assets over $1.5 billion.
  • November 12, 2004 - Canton OH, Home of One of the Nations Leading IDA Programs.  Typically our society spends approximately $20,000 a year to maintain a family in poverty.
